Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At Brandesburton Primary School, we are committed to providing an ambitious, inclusive curriculum that enables all pupils to achieve their full potential, regardless of their needs or starting points. This includes pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including those with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
In line with the SEND Code of Practice (2014), we ensure that pupils with SEND are identified early and supported through a graduated approach. High-quality, inclusive teaching is the foundation of our provision, with carefully adapted learning and targeted support enabling pupils to access the full curriculum alongside their peers.
We place strong emphasis on understanding each pupil as an individual. Pupils with SEND, along with their parents and carers, are central to all planning and decision-making. We work in close partnership with families and, where appropriate, external professionals to ensure that provision is well-matched to need and regularly reviewed for impact.
We are committed to ensuring that pupils with SEND are fully included in all aspects of school life. This includes opportunities to participate in the wider curriculum, leadership roles, and enrichment activities. We carefully monitor the progress, attainment and wider development of pupils with SEND to ensure they achieve well and are prepared for their next stage of education.
Promoting positive mental health and wellbeing is a key priority. We foster a supportive and nurturing environment where all pupils feel safe, valued and able to succeed. Staff are proactive in recognising and responding to emerging needs, ensuring that barriers to learning are addressed swiftly.
We regularly evaluate the effectiveness of our SEND provision, using a range of information including pupil progress, engagement, attendance and the views of pupils and families. This ensures that our approach continues to evolve and remains responsive to the needs of our school community.
Any complaints regarding SEND will be managed in line with the school’s complaints procedure, which can be found in the Policies section of our website.
